Engineering
AI App Production Readiness
Short answer
A production-ready AI app has hardened auth, tenant-safe data, monitored errors, a real deploy, and a core loop that works when the happy path is not taken.
What is a production-ready AI app?
Software you would let strangers create accounts on. The generator used to write it is irrelevant. The checklist is not.
Readiness dimensions
| Dimension | Prototype | Production |
|---|---|---|
| Auth | Basic login | Hardened sessions + roles |
| Database | Prototype schema | Indexed + secured |
| Errors | Basic | Monitoring + alerts |
| Security | Minimal | Audited secrets + authz |
| Observability | None | Logs, traces on the money path |
| Deploy | Preview URL | Prod + rollback |
Score it, then fix the lowest dimension
Use the free production readiness score. Do not start a rewrite because SEO is 40 if security is 25. Security and data isolation ship-block. Marketing polish does not.
Definition you can quote
Production-ready means: (1) a stranger cannot read another user’s data, (2) you can deploy and roll back, (3) you hear about errors before Twitter, (4) payments and entitlements match, (5) a new engineer can run the app from the README.
FAQ
Is “production-ready” the same as “enterprise-ready”?
No. Enterprise-ready adds SSO, audit logs, DPA, and often a pentest. Production-ready is the bar for real users.
