App Store Review Time in 2026: 48 Hours for 90%
Apple says 50% of App Store submissions are reviewed in under 24 hours and 90% in under 48 hours. Plan two days, and a week if it's your first app.
Table of Contents
App Store review in 2026 usually finishes inside two days. Apple's own App Review page says the team aims to review 50% of submissions in under 24 hours and 90% in under 48 hours. In 2026 Apple also told reporters the average was about 1.5 days, across more than 200,000 submissions a week. Those are population numbers, not a promise for your app. A clean update can clear overnight. A first app with a broken demo login can sit for a week, get rejected, and start the clock again.

The numbers, and what they are not
Use two days as the planning assumption for a resubmission that only fixes bugs. Use seven days as the assumption for a first binary, a new developer account, or anything with payments, health data, or user-generated content. The 10% outside Apple's 90% figure has no published deadline. If someone quotes you "always 24 hours," they are reading the headline and skipping the footnote.
- Apple App Review page: 50% under 24 hours, 90% under 48 hours
- Apple, 2026, via press: about 1.5 days on average, 200,000+ submissions a week
- Your first app: budget a week, including one rejection
What actually makes a review run long
Apple says extra time goes to documents (licenses, partnership letters) and to apps that touch regulated content, new entitlements, or unusual platform features. In practice the delays we see are more ordinary. The reviewer cannot log in. The core button errors. A paid feature is behind a signup wall with no demo account. Attach the login and the steps in App Review Information before you submit. If a license is required, attach it there too, not in a follow-up email after they ask.
Rejections that restart the clock
A rejection is not a delay. It is a new submission. Three guidelines cause most first-app rejections we get pulled into.
- 2.1 App Completeness: placeholder screens, dead buttons, or a flow the reviewer cannot finish. See our 2.1 rejection note.
- 4.2 Minimum Functionality: a website in a shell, or an app that does too little to justify a store listing.
- 3.1.1 In-App Purchase: digital goods sold with Stripe inside an iOS app. Physical goods and person-to-person services can use other payment methods. Digital unlocks cannot.
- 4.3 Spam, and 2.3 accurate metadata, show up when the listing overclaims what the build does.

A submission you can actually pass
Ship a finished loop, not a tour of future screens. One job, done. Create a reviewer account with data already in it, and write the password in App Review Information. If the app needs a camera or a subscription, say so in the notes and make sure that path works on a clean install. Record a 30-second screen capture of the happy path the day you submit. When they reject you, you want to know whether the build was broken or the notes were.
Expedited review
App Store Connect lets you request an expedited review. Apple treats it as an exception for a critical production bug, a security fix, or an event you can document. It is not a faster lane for a first launch you scheduled too tightly. If your launch date cannot survive a one-week slip, the date is wrong, not the review queue.
How this sits next to the build
Review time is not build time. A scoped iOS and Android MVP can be ready to submit in about 21 days from $3,460. The store can still take a few days after that, and a rejection adds another pass. Put "submitted" and "approved" on different lines of the plan. If you want that scope checked against your feature list, book a call and bring the build, or the brief if you have not started.

Questions
How long does App Store review take in 2026?
Apple's App Review page says 50% of submissions are reviewed in under 24 hours and 90% in under 48 hours. In 2026 Apple also said the average was about 1.5 days. Plan two days for a clean update and a week for a first app.
Does a rejection reset the App Store review clock?
Yes. A new submission starts a new review. The usual causes are an incomplete build (guideline 2.1), an app that does too little (4.2), or digital payments that skip Apple's in-app purchase (3.1.1).
Can I expedite an App Store review?
You can request an expedited review in App Store Connect. Apple treats it as an exception, typically for a critical bug, not as a way to skip the queue on a first launch.
What should I put in App Review Information?
A demo login that works, the steps to reach the core feature, and any license or partnership document the reviewer would otherwise have to ask for. Missing that is why some apps sit past 48 hours.
