App Store Rules

  • Up to 10 screenshots per device size
  • Must be PNG or JPEG, RGB color, no transparency
  • Videos: up to 30 seconds, M4V, MP4, or MOV, max 500MB
  • 6.9" screenshots replace all smaller phone sizes — only one set needed
  • Can add text overlays and callouts — allowed and recommended
  • Landscape orientation allowed (width > height)
  • Must not include Apple hardware in screenshots (App Store policy)

Screenshot ASO Tips

  • Put your best screenshot FIRST — it shows in search results
  • Add text overlays explaining the feature (Apple allows this)
  • Show actual UI, not just abstract design
  • Use a consistent color scheme across all screenshots
  • Screenshot 2 is visible before user taps 'See all' — make it count
  • Test dark mode vs light mode — both appeal to different users
  • Show social proof in screenshots (ratings, user count)
  • Videos autoplay on App Store — upload a preview for 2× more conversion
