Decision guide

Freelancer vs Agency for an MVP

Short answer: a trusted senior freelancer wins if you can spec, review, and wait. An agency wins if you need design + web + mobile + QA on a date and do not want to be the PM. Upwork-shaped “teams” of strangers are usually the worst of both.

Cost is not the only number

The freelancer invoice can be lower. Your time coordinating design, backend, and store review is not on that invoice. If your time is cheap and you are technical, freelance. If your time is fundraising, agency.

AI-built rescue

A freelancer can harden a Cursor repo. An agency is useful when the export is a mess and you need a scoped rebuild with a warranty window. See AI-generated code audit.
